Garrett was a little jealous that Owen got to paint BB8, so, not to be outdone, he hand-drew and painted his own. It turned out great! Eli painted a giant squid fighting a sperm whale and Dylan painted a panda bear (mostly on his own). I LOVE that these boys love art!!

I had a great morning with Owen! I surprised him with a trip to Art in the Vine to paint BB8, then to Steak and Shake for lunch afterwards. He was so excited to get started with tracing and painting, and the end product turned out awesome!! Owen said 'this is my biggest, and probably my best, painting ever!' And he wants to take it to Faith for Show and Tell this week because he's so proud of his work : ) At lunch, he ordered his first footlong and ate the whole thing! I love getting to spend one-on-one time with the boys and wish it could happen more often!

My first painting class at Art in the Vine was so much fun! I wasn't crazy about the image, but I really like how she turned out, and I loved that the instructor let us personalize the colors. I'm going to miss these girls when we move to NC!

We learned about the first printing press in Story of the World so we made our own potato stamps to learn about how Gutenberg made the first stamps to make books. The boys learned that letters would have to be carved backwards if the stamper would print them the right direction, and that it takes a steady hand to not slip in the ink on the paper. Gotta love hands on learning!

A couple Story of the World school project updates...
Making thumbprint Greek gods and goddesses
Carving soap like the Romans made stone sculptures
Closing our eyes and trying to draw a picture. Similar to how the Nazca people created huge line drawings in fields and couldn't see the whole picture while they created it (and theirs STILL came out way better than ours!)
Making colored sand paintings

What a week for art projects! I knew I had to take advantage of Leah's artistic abilities while she was here so we tackled the huge empty wall in my bedroom and the two chairs that I found at Goodwill that were begging to be refinished. They started as brown stained wood chairs with a sea foam green velour cloth - blah! For the playroom, Leah convinced me to go wild and crazy, literally!

Before Grandma and Uncle Dan came to visit Charlie asked them what sorts of things they wanted to do while they were here. Owen's first and highest priority was camping... granted!

One of Eli's favorite Christmas gifts was a T-Rex fossil kit. You get goggles, wooden tools and a block of stone to chisel away from the dinosaur. He was super sweet and asked his brothers to be his helpers. They all loved discovering the bones and assembling them - what a cool project! Perfect for our future scientist : )
