Letter Y is for Yo-yo!

Only one more letter of the week to go! I can't believe we made it all the way through the alphabet before the baby came - that was my New Year's Resolution!

Our Letter X craft this week!

April 20, 2012

This week for the Letter W, we learned about weather, whales and watermelon. It gave us a pretty wide assortment of activities and books to read, plus Eli especially is big into ocean animals right now, so the whales were right up his alley. I wanted to capture the differences between Owen and Eli artistically because I think the drastic difference is so funny. The first picture is how they both approach color-by-number pages. In the second, I gave them each a tree that symbolized a season and asked them to draw a picture of what they might do in that season. Owen colored the grass green, the dirt and branches brown and then drew a person walking in the leaves. Eli turned his paper over and drew a 'watermelon machine' on the back. Crazy kids! Garrett's is the far right scribble : ) The watermelon paper plate craft is for the art wall in the playroom. Only three more letters to go!

I love the excitement in Eli's face, even though this is probably the 10th time he poured the vinegar into the baking soda to make his volcano erupt. It never gets old!

Our sponge painting creations! Hot air balloons!

We're learning about U is for Up this week, and what better way than to create our own hot air balloons! With a helium balloon from the grocery story, some yarn, a piece of paper and tape, we created hours of enjoyment. Unfortunately the strongest helium only lasts for a couple hours, but it was fun while it lasted!

Letter Tt - Only 6 letter to go! They think it's hilarious that the pig is driving Eli's tractor : )

What is it about a sink full of water that's so entertaining? They played for almost an hour, trying to figure out which toys would sink and which ones would float. Garrett just liked tossing in anything he could get his hands on and watching them splash. Gotta love cheap entertainment!

I wish you could have heard the conversation going on while they were coloring this page. They were trying to figure out which kid should have which sticker for a face based on what was happening. They were torn between the girl with the ice cream that dropped being sad or angry, and the tiger in the cage being sad or angry. They worked it out pretty great, even making choices like the girl next to the tiger having a scared face (because the tiger scared her!) and the boy being licked by the giraffe having a surprised face. So proud of them!

Our Letter Q crafts! The boys are loving 'school' and will ask me to do 'Letter _ things' all the time. As soon as Garrett is in bed for his name they start suggesting activities that have to do with our letter of the week - and they've even asked me to see my pinboards on Pinterest to get ideas (not calling them pinboards, obviously, but still knowing where I store most of my ideas!) Q was a challenge, and I'm glad it's behind us, but it was fun and their new artwork looks great in the playroom!

Letter N craft for the week. We were in sickness recovery mode this week, so I was pretty surprised that we completed this art project from start to finish. Granted, it took us 4 days to do it, but they still turned out pretty cute : )

Catching up from our last week on the letter M. The monkey crackers are peanut butter crackers with bananas, chocolate chips, cheerios and pretzels and they were gobbled up. Thankfully we fit in the paper plate craft before the boys got sick, because trying to get them to paint (or cooperate!) when they don't feel good is a lost cause : )

Our ladybug footprints turned out pretty cute. Garrett, of course, wanted to be a part of the action until I put the paint on his foot... then he couldn't get away fast enough! I love how they choose the biggest googly eyes they can find!

Ladybug lacing! Check out Eli's concentration as he puts the yard through the right hole. They were so excited so see each other's finished products : )

Our Letter Kk craft this week: Kk is for Kings and Kiwi! I took a quick picture of Owen and Eli with their pages and Garrett rushed over to stand in the line with them. He wants to be one of the big boys so bad!
