Have I mentioned how much I'm enjoying homeschooling this year? We've been learning about Ancient Greece for awhile now and the activity for this chapter is to run your own Popinas - a Greek restaurant! We made "lamb" (pork) kebabs and Greek pasta salad, bought pitas and hummus, lentil soup and grape juice from the store and bought spanikopita and baklava from a Greek restaurant. It was delicious! The boys made menus and served us each component, and they all tried everything!

I came around the corner in the school room and found an inside out person staring at me! Owen had traced himself and them drew all the organs, blood vessels, bones (ha!) and 'juices'. Not bad! He even drew the vessels coming out of the heart!

I'm all about a fun activity to wrap up a unit in school, and this one was a Mollusk Meal after we finished learning about mollusks in Science! We had clam chowder with oyster crackers and (homemade!) linguine with clam sauce that the boys inhaled! Winner winner yummy dinner!

This is the beauty of homeschooling! Owen and Eli are working through Swimming Animals of the Fifth Day and this chapter was on primeval reptiles. They spent two hours cutting out and putting together the puzzle pieces coloring them, gluing them down and categorizing them into the different reptile categories. What other six year olds do you know who can tell the difference between a Nothasaurus, Mosasaurus, Plesiosaurus, Pliosaurus and Ichthyosaurs?!

We went to Green Meadows Petting Farm again this year and the boys were so excited to get there because they remembered everything about it from last year. They couldn't wait to hold the chickens, see the pigs race, choose a pumpkin and milk the cows. Eli and Garrett were even brave enough to feed the llamas! It lived up to their expectations for sure!

Our first field trip this year was to River Legacy Learning Center and the boys had a blast! They got to observe and handle snails, touch a shed snake skin, touch a live snake and see a possum up close. We went on a scavenger hunt hike too, which was a big hit. Field trips really enhance our homeschooling days and I'm so thankful that there are other moms out there organizing them for us all to enjoy. Maybe someday when I feel like my head is higher above water I'll be one of those planning moms ; )

Another great zoo day! That membership has really come in handy : ) We went with Drew, Lauren and Rachel and hada great time doing all sorts of things we've never done before - the gorillas were out and active, we fed the giraffes lettuce, we rode the carousel and had a picnic. And of course, there's always pictures with the elephants : ) So fun!
