We're heading home! It was such a strange sensation to realize that we could leave the hospital with Garrett instead of having to come back for him a couple weeks later. He is still so new I can't believe that they let anyone leave with babies this young! I guess that's the norm though, and we're excited that we got to experience it. Garrett slept the whole way home and for a few more hours after that. Poor little guy was pretty wiped out from his circ that morning. He's doing great though, and we're all adjusting to having a new baby in the house again. When Charlie picked the boys up from Jackie's where they were napping so we could get discharged, Owen came running around the corner smiling and pointing, saying 'Baby Get!'... Eli came running around the corner, stopped dead in his tracks when he saw me holding the baby, burst into tears and went running back to Charlie. This will be an adjustment : )

We got a mini cake to celebrate the boys' homecoming and only got around to eating it today. The candles will have to wait until next year to be lit!
Owen falls asleep after lunch.
Eli, all buckled up and ready for our first walk through the neighborhood. The weather was perfect. We got the boys strapped in and loaded up the double stroller and visited one of the neighbors we met at the pool who also had a baby recently. Then we continued walking for a while before returning home. The boys seemed to enjoy it - they slept pretty soundly!

We arrived at the Danbury Hospital for the last time this morning. All of the extra diapers, feeding supplies, thermometers, etc were all neatly packed in bags by the boys beds. We changed the boys out of the NICU-owned clothes and put on the boys' outfits we'd brought from home. Then we loaded them in the carseats nice and snug and onto the stroller. The doctor briefed us on final discharge details, we signed a few papers, and that was it!
We went down the hall, Beth feeling a little emotional about the significance of leaving the NICU, and got on the elevator. When we got off 10 seconds later, we had the first of what we know will be thousands of conversations that will basically start off like this... "Oh, they're adorable!" "Thanks!" "Are they twins?" "Yes, actually they are." "Awww.. are they identical?" Then we will either answer yes or no depending on our opinion at that particular moment. We laughed, knowing the woman was the honorary first of many well-meaning strangers we'll encounter as the boys grow up.
Of course, the boys missed the whole event - they were sound asleep.
Owen & Eli arrive home for the first time!
Our cats Savannah and Tibby look the future in the eye... we're not sure if they like what they saw. We know they thought the boys were cute, but we assume they also realized that they are in deep trouble.
