I am so grateful that I am homeschooling the boys when I come across words like this in our Science book. Never in a million years would they read this in public school and I'm so thankful that they can learn the truth about the stars from the perspective of the MAKER of the stars!!

We learned about the first printing press in Story of the World so we made our own potato stamps to learn about how Gutenberg made the first stamps to make books. The boys learned that letters would have to be carved backwards if the stamper would print them the right direction, and that it takes a steady hand to not slip in the ink on the paper. Gotta love hands on learning!

Our science experiment for the Jupiter chapter was to determine whether or not Jupiter was bigger than all the other planets combined. We made play-doh, measured the planets (based on the sizes given in the text), and made our hypothesis. It was! I couldn't believe it since Saturn was so close in size to Jupiter but it really is bigger than all the others combined. Pretty cool!

Owen is sad because his turned out smaller : )

About three years ago on Easter, Owen said to me 'Mom! I really like your big green shirt!' It was a dress... guess they don't see much of those! But now... three years later, I saw that he wrote SH for the beginning consonant blend instead of DR. Guess he still can't tell the difference. Ha!!

Garrett's journal prompt was 'Who is your favorite Bible character?' His response: 'I liked Jesus because he died for us.' Amen!

Today's field trip brought to you by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Black Dance Company. It was a beautiful venue and they played great music by American composers. Flat Stanley liked it too ; )

Another great morning of homeschooling! Learning about the difference between meteors, meteorites, asteroids and meteoroids while enjoying cinnamon rolls and time together. Love these boys and the time we have everyday!

We took a field trip to Mammoth National Monument in Waco with the Boltons and it was totally worth the trip! They found 17 full mammoths in their original location and have been working to uncover them, while leaving them undisturbed. It was so different than a museum when they set the bones up like they would have looked alive, which made it that much more cool!! After they saw the mammoth bones they participated in a workshop on carnivores vs herbivores and what their teeth look like, they got to make a shark tooth necklace and see a ton of animal skulls. It was awesome! We ate lunch at the Silos in Waco and headed home. Loved it!!

What a great field trip! We went to the Lake Lewisville Environmental Learning Area for a morning of hiking and kayaking, and it was a beautiful morning for it! You had to be seven to kayak, but the boys had a tough go at it. It was windy and they kept getting pushed to the banks, which gets frustrating and difficult to correct. They both ended up getting towed back to the starting point, but they enjoyed the experience nonetheless. I wasn't even supposed to be with them during the kayak, but Garrett had a stomach bug that morning so he stayed home with Charlie instead of the two of us hiking. It worked out for the best!
