What a great day! Not only was it 65 degrees and sunny, but we saw some things that made us think "only in Texas!" all day long! We started off the day by driving to Fort Worth, which is about 45 minutes from our new home. We went there because that morning held the annual Forth Worth Stock Show Parade, a parade that over 100,000 people come watch and that doesn't include any motorized vehicles at all. I think we saw every horse, mule and pony in the West and South combined! There were covered wagons and cowboys and long horn steers and lots of big hats everywhere! After the parade we headed to the Stock Show itself. It was sort of like a livestock festival and we were amazed at every turn of the head at some of the things we were seeing. There was a goat contest, judged by the local 4H clubs, a horse auction, a pigeon contest (who knew that people thought they were more than just rats with wings!?) and farming equipment for purchase (the one Charlie is on is over $30,000!)
This was the craziest thing we saw though... this girl was sound asleep holding these two goats, who were also sound asleep. These people sure like their livestock! Just a few pens away was a pile of baby goats that were mounded up and sleeping like puppies. Just after we took this shot, one of them woke up and decided he'd had enough and walked on top of all the other babies to get out. Talk about a rude awakening!
