January 18, 2009

Today was another beautiful day! I can't believe that people live in climates where they can be outside in January on a regular basis -- I could get used to this! Besides the fact that all four of us are sick right now, we still managed to get outside and go for a walk along the canal that's behind our complex. It'll be really pretty when the spring comes and things aren't quite so dead, but I'll take this over 24 degrees in Connecticut any day!

These two shots are of the public areas in our complex. Texas law states that you can't grill within 10 feet of a residence, so there is an area with two grills and an awesome stone bar and stools to use instead. I'm not sure how many people actually use something like this (everyone probably thinks that someone else is using it when they want it and, as a result, no one actually uses it!) but I would love to take advantage of this! I would love it more if we met some friends to use it with, but I'm sure that will come eventually.

No waiting for Memorial Day here! The pool is filled now, though I don't think people use it until March. But still! March is better than the end of May!

beth & charlie! welcome to texas! i am a friend of masha rowley's from illinois, but i have since moved to austin, tx. growing up in the northeast (me) & the midwest (my husband), we also had many similar incredulous texas-specific experiences! and aren't winters just awesome here? we had a bbq with friends this past weekend -- who does that!?? ;) well, if you guys ever want to come & visit austin, please know that you are welcome & we'd love to show you around! we also know some folks in the DFW area, and may have a church recommendation or two (though i know that metropolitan area is pretty large & may or may not be helpful for you!). let me know if you guys need anything that you think we could help with! rebekah.a.johnson(at)gmail.com
