The Lost Mine Trail might as well have been called the "Lost Cause Trail" as far as Eli was concerned. He started out strong, but it wasn't too long before things started to break down in a bad way. I can't really blame him though, it was a cloudy day and very windy. Charlie and I learned our lesson the hard way that the Boy Scouts are onto something when they say "Always Be Prepared." We were without binkies, kleenex, blanket, socks and it had been too long since their last nap. The trail has 24 markers and we made it to 10 before turning around. We both had to carry the boys in our arms instead of the pack and Eli was inconsolable. I'm sure looking back it will be funny to think of how loudly a baby's cry echos in the mountains, but... not so much at the time!
Eli started out in high enough spirits...
... But things quickly made a turn for the worse once he decided he'd had enough! This picture (above) was our turn around point. Luckily, it was one of the best views (other than the summit) along the trail.
Don't let Owen fool you though... he was crying just as loud until Charlie pulled him out of the pack.
Owen tried, but even he couldn't calm Eli down!
Better luck next time, I'm sure!
