October 11, 2008

Today was a GREAT day! Charlie and I took the boys on a day trip around the area to local orchards and pumpkin patches and they did a fantastic job all day long. It was the perfect way to initiate ourselves with road trips with twins. I have to say though - it is not for the faint of heart! It takes way more energy than we would have expected, and you become like the bodyguards of pseudo-celebrities. Everyone wants to see the babies! We must have answered 20 times today how much they weighed when they were born, how old they are, whether or not they are identical, if they are boys or girls (they were tucked deep into the baby bjorns and you couldn't really tell) and how life is going so far. We were wished lots of luck and God's blessings told to brace ourselves for the ride ahead. We're loving it so far!

First we met up with our friends, the Harley's, at a pumpkin patch across the NY state line. It was a small, Christian-run, local patch with free hayrides out to the pumpkins. We picked two small ones for the boys and one larger one so we could make pumpkin seeds. Afterwards, we stopped by a harvest festival in one of the cutest little streamside towns we've ever seen.

We finished the day with an orchard here in Danbury with homemade apple cidar donuts that we bought for breakfast tomorrow. They were in and out of the baby bjorns and carseats all day and slept through just about all of it. The weather was absolutely beautiful and we are so thankful for the time together as a family.

How fun! You both needed a change in scenery, and it sounds like it suited Owen and Eli well too. Nice photos. Hope you all sleep well tonight after the fresh air.
